PTSD Claims
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is an extreme anxiety condition and is typically developed if you have been through a traumatic experience where you either were scared for your life or extremely frightened.
This includes being in an accident and extends to witnessing a traumatic event. PTSD is particularly common for those who work in professions such as the fire brigade, the police force, the armed services or the ambulance service.
However, PTSD is not exclusive to these jobs and can also affect those in “normal” everyday workplaces if they have experienced or witnessed a traumatic event.
Suffering from PTSD can leave you unable to engage in normal activities such as work and socialising. This is frustrating and isolating in itself but can be even more frustrating if it was through no fault of your own and the negligence of a third party.
If this is the case, then you may be eligible to make a claim and with over 20 years of experience, Injury Lawyers UK can help.

Types of PTSD
PTSD can be caused by a range of events and in the workplace accidents such as being dragged into machinery or being injured by malfunctioning equipment could lead to PTSD.
Symptoms of PTSD include:
- Irritability
- Depression
- Flashbacks
- Isolation
- Insomnia
- Anger management issues
- Difficulty communicating and socialising with others
When it comes to making a PTSD claim, PTSD can be categorised into four main areas; Minor, Moderate, Moderately Severe and Permanent Severe.
1. Permanent Severe Effects – This is the most severe of all and is where PTSD has left you with permanent debilitating effects leaving you unable to function in what would be considered as “normal”.
2. Moderately Severe – This is similar to the severe effects above but differs as it is likely that those suffering are able to recover from some of the symptoms
3. Moderate – An advancement from minor whereby those suffering have symptoms which are not emotionally disabling but are ongoing
4. Minor – This refers to those cases whereby the PTSD was short-lived (typically under 2 years) and a full recovery was made
Compensation varies depending on the severity of the PTSD suffered and each case is unique. Compensation ranges from £2.8k to £66k.
Can I Make a Claim?
Historically, courts haven’t been willing to consider PTSD cases but in recent years, understanding has improved and this is no longer the case.
As long as you are confirmed as suffering from PTSD by a clinical psychologist or psychotherapist and it was caused by a traumatic experience that was due to third party negligence you may be eligible to claim.
